Synopsis
«Mosquito» is a tragedy-thriller (12min) about the fight between an elderly man and a mosquito; without any dialogue. This film reveals how far a decent citizen in our civilisation is willing to go to kill a small insect.
Project
«Mosquito» is a project initiated by the director and writer Timo von Gunten after a series of short films. It was produced by Rajko Jazbec (CognitoFilms) in collaboration with BMC Films and Fabian Weber Photography. This project's greatest challange was the last page of the script: The protagonist fluds his entire bedroom with water to let the mosquito drown. A team of over 20 enthusiastic artists and technicians have been involved and helped the mosquito become alive in this bitter-sweet short film tragedy.
Cast
Manfred Liechti (Swiss Academy Award Nominee) is particularly known for his achievements in "Herbstzeitlosen" and "Im Namen der Gerechtigkeit". After a series of collaborations with Timo von Gunten, he has excelled once again in this unique role of the suffering proletarian.
Mosquito Lilly is our Hollywood star playing the antagonist in the story. She was born 1976 in Kenya and studied law at Harvard University. In 1996 she flew to Los Angeles and specialized in method acting. Hundreds of people have suffered under her egocentric behaviour. Nevertheless, she is currently working on a feature film in Hollywood and will likely be one of the next Oscar winners.
Production Crew
After his autodidactic film career, Timo von Gunten (born 1989) has been working on diverse Swiss film productions as an editor and director. As the founder of BMC Films, he lives and works as an independent filmmaker with his base in Zürich.
